Title: Data Researcher Analyst Department / Team: Technology Location: Remote Employment Type: Full-Time Build the proprietary data engine that powers Dark Alpha Capital’s deal origination by uncovering hidden companies, mapping fragmented industries, and identifying key decision-makers. Operate as an investigative partner to the deal team, transforming raw data into actionable intelligence that directly drives sourcing strategy and fuels a high-volume, precision-driven acquisition pipeline.

About the Firm

We are an independent sponsor firm focused on sourcing and managing private investment opportunities. Our team partners with a broad network of debt and equity investors to fund transactions across diverse industries. We pride ourselves on fostering strong, lasting relationships and delivering high-value opportunities to our investor base.

Role Summary

The Data Researcher Analyst is the "intelligence officer" of our origination team. You are responsible for identifying the companies and owners that fit our tight investment criteria. This is not a passive data-entry role; it is a proactive investigative position. You will mine diverse data sources, from industry databases and state registries to social platforms, to build the proprietary "Map of the Market" that fuels our deal flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Generation: Identify and profile target companies within specific North American Standard Industrial Classification (SIC/NAICS) codes.
  • Owner Identification: Locate and verify contact information for business owners, CEOs, and key decision-makers using advanced investigative tools.
  • Market Mapping: Build comprehensive lists of "hidden" companies in fragmented industries (e.g., specialized manufacturing or niche medical services).
  • Data Verification: Scrub and validate existing datasets to ensure high deliverability for our outreach campaigns and accuracy in our CRM (Bitrix24/HubSpot).
  • Signal Tracking: Monitor "trigger events" such as local news mentions, patent filings, or regulatory updates that indicate a company may be ready for a transition.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Research the acquisition history and portfolio companies of competing PE firms to identify whitespace in the market.
  • CRM Stewardship: Ensure all research is meticulously organized and categorized within the firm’s internal deal tracking systems.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in market research, lead generation, or investigative data roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Boolean search, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and data tools (e.g., Apollo, ZoomInfo, or specialized PE databases).
  • High comfort level navigating public records, SEC filings, and industry-specific directories.
  • Strong Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, and data cleaning).

Preferred

  • Experience in Private Equity, Investment Banking, or Executive Search.
  • Familiarity with "low-code" data scraping tools or browser automation.
  • Understanding of lower-middle-market business dynamics and North American geography.

Skills and Competencies

  • Investigative Curiosity: An "investigator" mindset—willing to follow obscure leads to find a direct phone number or a silent partner.
  • Methodical Discipline: The ability to maintain high data quality and organization while processing large volumes of information.
  • Pattern Recognition: Ability to spot trends or clusters of high-quality targets within a massive dataset.
  • Communication: Capability to summarize complex findings into clear, actionable briefs for the Managing Partner.
